The training of the seafarers, boarded or waiting for boarding on ships under the Italian flag, is structured on two levels, and must be updated every five years.

Competence in first aid and medical care on board merchant ships shall be demonstrated by first and second level certificates, which can be obtained by attending courses and passing final examinations.

competencies relating to the first level of training of seafarers designated to provide first medical aid onboard ships, capable of reaching a medical station within 8 hours of navigation, meet the standard of competence for first aid onboard ships specified in paragraphs 1 to 3 of Section A-VI/4 of Regulation VI/4 described in Table A-VI/4-1 annexed to the International STCW Convention 1978/1995 as updated in Manila in 2010.

The «First Aid» training certificate shall demonstrate the achievement of the first level of training provided for in the 2006 ILO MLC Convention.

Upon obtaining the training certificate referred to in the updated STCW’78 rule, section and table, seafarers will be able to provide first medical aid onboard ships.

The course will take place in special classrooms with medical teachers belonging to the medical group of hospital A. Cardarelli. The course is held at the IMAT training center, the exam instead at the Center of Business Training Hospital A. Cardarelli of Naples at the Via A. Cardarelli n°9.

The «First Aid» level training certificate is obtained by attending a 24-hour course, of which at least 6 are practical exercises

The transfer to hospital A. Cardarelli on examination day has a cost of 15 euros, for those who stay at our IMAT hotel while those who do not stay overnight in IMAT hotel will reach the hospital A. Cardarelli by their own.

At least thirty days before the beginning of the courses, they are advertised through the posting of calendars and related programs at the Port Authorities and maritime, air and border health offices and territorial health care services for navigating and air navigation personnel  (USMAF-SASN). Applications for enrollment in the course must be addressed to the course director through the Port Authorities at least fifteen days before the start date.

First-level training and updating of seafarers enrolled in seafarers’ freshmen is permitted.

To access the First Aid course you have to submit an application, issued by the IMAT center, to the skipper, a copy of it must be, then, submitted to the IMAT center.

It is also necessary to have biennial validity.

The training and the sanitary training of the seafarers, boarded or waiting for boarding on ships flying the Italian flag, is structured on two levels formative, to update to intervals not exceeding five years.

Competence in first aid and medical care on board merchant ships shall be demonstrated by first and second level certificates, which can be obtained by attending courses and passing final examinations.

The competences relative to the second level of formation of the marine ones designated to having the responsibility for the medical assistance on board of the ships with less than 100 people and that they are not in a position to reaching a medical station within the eight hours of navigation, meet the standard of assistance competence ship medical onboard ships specified in Regulation VI/4-2 -Section A-VI/4, paragraphs 4 to 6 described in Table A-VI/4-2, annexed to the International STCW Convention 1978/1995 as updated in Manila in 2010.

The training certificate «Medical Care», attests to the achievement of the second level of training provided by the ILO MLC 2006 convention indicated in the premises.

The course will take place in special classrooms with medical teachers belonging to the medical group of hospital A. Cardarelli. The course is held at the IMAT training center, the exam instead at the Center of Business Training Hospital A. Cardarelli of Naples at the Via A. Cardarelli n°9.

The courses have a minimum duration of 46 hours of theoretical and practical training, of which at least 12 are practical exercises.

The transfer to hospital A. Cardarelli on examination day is free of charge, for those who stay at our IMAT hotel while those who do not stay overnight in IMAT hotel will reach the hospital A. Cardarelli by their own.

At least thirty days before the beginning of the courses, they are advertised through the posting of calendars and related programs at the Port Authorities and maritime, air and border health offices and territorial health care services for navigating and air navigation personnel  (USMAF-SASN). Applications for enrollment in the course must be addressed to the course director through the Port Authorities at least fifteen days before the start date.

They are admitted to support the formation and the upgrade of second level the officers of Merchant Navy .

The courses are weekly organized except the second, third week of August and the Christmas holiday season. In addition, courses are organized on request through private or corporate bookings.
