\u00a0The course is designed to provide technical staff with the knowledge required to understand the redundancy concept for DP operations. The course is for technical staff who have a good knowledge of ships systems and therefore only covers the redundancy aspect of onboard systems to ensure safe DP operations.<\/div>\n

The minimum qualification is set at STCW Regulation III\/1 \u2013 III \/2 \u2013 III\/3 \u2013 III\/6 Engine and Regulation III\/6 for ETOs. The Nautical Institute will also accept anyone on a case-by-case basis that holds a technical officer\u2019s position on any DP vessel. The course may also be attended by relevant shore-based technical staff and DPOs and technical cadets to improve their knowledge.<\/div>\n

1. A DP Maintainer is a person onboard a DP vessel that is part of the technical team whose duties include safe DP operation and preventive maintenance of all DP-related systems onboard a DP vessel.<\/div>\n
2. They have knowledge of DP components and their location onboard the DP vessel to allow them to communicate with and complete repairs under the direct instruction from the equipment manufacturer.<\/div>\n
3. They have the knowledge to stop maintenance before affecting the redundancy of the vessel.<\/div>\n
4. They have the knowledge to know when a vessel is safe to conduct DP operations and is compliant with the DP class of the vessel.<\/div>\n

The course is designed to provide technical staff with the knowledge required to understand the redundancy concept for DP operations. The course is for technical staff who have a good knowledge of ships systems and therefore only covers the redundancy aspect of onboard systems to ensure safe DP operations. A DP vessel depends on redundancy of all systems onboard to ensure safe operations. Technical staff need to be able to identify the correct redundant set-up of all systems, identify loss of redundancy in any system and therefore understand when a vessel may have to suspend operations.<\/div>\n

The scheme was developed based on feedback from the industry, which follows the recommendations contained in The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA-117) guidelines and IMO STCW – Section B-V\/f*. The scheme also takes into consideration the following documents:<\/div>\n

  2. OCIMF DP FMEA Assurance Framework Risk Based Guidance 2020,<\/li>\n
  3. MTS- Guidance for Professional Development of DP Personal -PDDP2<\/li>\n
  4. and the Nautical Institute course \u201cDP Knowledge for Technical Staff\u201d.\u00a0ISM Code.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
